DOMAINE CA BOIT LIBRE
Damien started out as a horticulturist and spent part of his career in the Republic of Chad studying agriculture and ecosystems; upon returning to Geneva, his love for the world of wine was definitively born and he began working as an apprentice with the Savoyard vigneron Dominique Lucas and then continued for several years also working with Anne and Jean-Francois Ganevat in the Jura.
The dedication and long hours put in during this period have certainly paid off for him and in 2019, Damien acquired the vineyards from retired vigneron Jean-Marie Chappuis thus launching his project.
It seems like a great homecoming story as Damien's grandfather, Andre Goddard, was a large farmer and was part of a key campaign to have Savoy wines recognized under an official AOC. In fact, the name Damien uses on his labels (Damien Bastien Goddard) acknowledges his grandfather's heritage by using his last name, Goddard.
The wines are incredibly expressive and individual, the result of spontaneous fermentations and no addition of sulphites. In doing so they show a wonderful duality, an internal drive of weight, texture, acidity and salinity. The influence of Damien's mentors, his attention to detail and love for the land where he lives and works are present in his wines and that is more than exciting!
